Fun Facts About Humans

While humans are said to be one of the most developed animal species, there are multiple things unknown about them. Isn't it ironic how we humans research ourselves?

"The following are some scientific descriptions of human beings:

Humans are the most abundant and widespread species of primates, classified by bipedalism and large, complex brains."

Source: Wikipedia

"Human being: a culture-bearing primate classified in the genus Homo, especially the species H. sapiens. Human beings are anatomically similar and related to the great apes and are distinguished by a more highly developed brain and a resultant capacity for articulate speech and abstract reasoning. In addition, human beings display a marked erectness of body carriage that frees the hands for use as manipulative members."

There has been a lot of research done, and there have been a lot of results found. Some have been mentioned here. To learn more about humans, it's preferable to Google about them, or to search in an encyclopedia.

Some fun facts about humans!

Humans have lines on their bodies that they can not see.

These lines are called Blaschko's lines. They run in a v-shape across the body. They might be mitigation of embryonic cells and a type of genetic mosaicism. There hasn't been much information relayed on this topic, but these lines become prominent when external substances accumulate between these lines due to some diseases or if mucose manifests themselves according to these patterns.

Humans are naturally bioluminescent.

It may seem to be hard to believe, but it is true. We are bioluminescent. The light released by our body is too weak to be picked up by our naked eye. But we can speculate that creatures with sharp vision can observe our light.

Scar tissues itch because the nerve endings are sensitive.

The healing scar tissues have nerve endings that are highly sensitive while forming back.

Low levels of dopamine are why we want to munch when bored.

When we are sitting idle, our brain does not have any stimulation causing our dopamine levels to drop. Our brain triggers actions such as binging and eating to engage our brain in an activity.

Tetrochromacy

Tetrochromacy is the condition of possessing four independent channels for conveying colour information or having four types of cone cells in the eye. Humans can also have more than four types of cones. People who do not have one or more cones are colour blind. Usually, people can see colours in the spectrum of blue, green and red. But people with more than three cones can see more colours. Do not test you are a tetrachromat using a computed test, as computers can only emit red, blue and green light!

Humans are not apex predators.

"An apex predator, also known as an alpha predator or top predator, is a predator at the top of a food chain, without natural predators." Apex predators usually occupy the highest trophic levels in terms of trophic dynamics. (Source: Wikipedia) While humans can hunt all types of creatures using tools, we can not excuse how we are defenceless against several creatures when stranded without any. The apex predators are not humans as their diets are often diversified, yet human trophic levels grow with meat consumption.
